In a global, digital world, all businesses, products, markets, and economies face common pressures — make smart decision making faster, make it easier to measure success, and make success more routine. The B.S. in Business Analytics brings together the broad application of math and statistics, the intelligent design/computing of data science, and the business savvy of operations research and management to support success. Demand for graduates with skills in big data collection and analysis, process improvement, and project management — captured in the phrase business intelligence — are in demand across a wide range of industries.

Program Highlights

As a student in the B.S. in Business Analytics program, you will gain extensive skills in statistical analysis, data visualization and modeling (descriptive, predictive and prescriptive). That strong analytical and technical background is balanced by insights into how these models can be applied across functional business areas. You will gain exposure to broad business areas (finance and strategic management/marketing), with a special emphasis on supply chain and operations. Climate, political, and social change all make the ability to translate data into insights and smarter decision making vital for global supply chain and operations.


Health Informatics

Health Informatics concerns the storage, retrieval, use and delivery of health-related data and information across networks of patients and providers. Whether in support of emergency room optimization, patient health-care affordability, or study and prevention of global pandemics, the practice of health informatics is essential to achieving solutions, better delivery and greater knowledge for the benefit of humankind.

Health Systems Engineering

The Health Systems Engineering (HSE) concentration program prepares the architects of tomorrow’s healthcare system to take on its most urgent and complex challenges. Health systems engineering involves a multidisciplinary approach that applies engineering and analytic principles to all aspects of healthcare. Students in the program gain real-world experience with industry experts and a multidisciplinary faculty to prepare students for a career leading change in healthcare.

Intelligent Mobility

Intelligent Mobility uses data and technology to connect people, places, and goods across all transportation modes. Growth in intelligent mobility will transform the way people travel, interact with their environment, and connect goods and services.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Logistics and Supply Chain Management is the coordination of all logistical functions in an enterprise including acquisition, handling, the internal allocation of resources, delivery and output. Students develop knowledge of the business and technical aspects of managing large-scale delivery operations. The expert in Logistics/Supply Chain Management optimizes these complex networks to ensure efficiency and satisfaction.

Quantitative Economics and Econometrics

Quantitative Economics and Econometrics use mathematical and statistical methods to develop techniques for measuring a range of systems, including financial, government, social, legal, medical, and so on. Students with a quantitative economics and econometrics background learn to assess and measure trends to understand complex phenomena and to improve long-term positioning.

Capstone: Where it Comes Together

Each Florida Poly senior joins a Capstone Design team of (three to five students) of a single discipline (mechanical engineering) or mixed disciplines (engineering, computer science, data science, etc.) to complete a year-long, industry-sponsored project. Capstone culminates with a year-end gathering of sponsors and project teams, and the presentation of final ‘beta’ level prototypes. Past Capstone Design projects have led to job offers from sponsoring companies.

Get Involved

Florida Poly invites you to develop both people and technology skills through a variety of undergraduate research opportunities and student organizations: student chapters of professional groups (American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Women Engineers and National Society for Black Engineers); academic clubs (Math Club, Modeling and Simulation Club; and social groups (Latin American Student Association, Variety Gaming Tournament Club).

Award-Winning Robotics

Florida Poly’s Purple Fire Robotics Club (45 members strong) took home the Judges Award at the 2018 VEX Robotics World Championship and will next compete in the 2019 SoutheastCon “First 50…Next 50” Hardware Competition in Huntsville, Alabama. 

Job Outlook

Business Analytics is much younger as a profession than something like accounting. The variety of people, skill sets, job titles and work environments within Business Analysts is wide.

At the high end of the spectrum, job titles like chief data officer, business intelligence developer or business intelligence architect can earn upwards of $200,000. Early career titles include analytics manager, data-driven decision-maker, functional analyst, and data systems developer.

Job Growth

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, the employment of management analysts – including business analysts – is expected to grow 14% from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

Salary Ranges

BLS reports for May 2016 showed that the average annual income for all management analysts, including business analysts, was $91,910. The middle 50% earned between $60,950 and $109,170. Salaries for the lowest 10% were around $46,560, while the highest 10% brought in upwards of $149,720.

Meet Sravani Vadlamani

Assistant Professor

Believes that incremental improvements to personal and commercial transportation systems can add up to a smarter, healthier planet. Dr. Vadlamani applied her GIS and data analytical skills to study emission reduction strategies (information technology, inspection processes and physical infrastructure improvements, fuel switching) among light-duty and heavy-duty vehicle emissions at the Mariposa ports of entry in Nogales, Arizona.

Meet Grisselle Centeno


Her primary research and teaching interests include optimization-based modeling for the planning and control of operations in service industries including healthcare, education, transportation, and entertainment.

Meet Mostafa Ardakani

Associate Professor

Models how future automated transportation systems might move people and goods more efficiently and with greater safety. He studies how factors (driver, traffic flow and roadway conditions,) affect vehicle behavior in a stream of traffic.
