David Brunell

Assistant General Counsel

David J. Brunell, Assistant General Counsel, has worked in the Office of the General Counsel since 2018 serving primarily in the general areas of procurement, construction, environmental health and safety, and on contractual matters for the Florida Polytechnic University Foundation and the Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute.

David served as the senior staff attorney to Judge Marva L. Crenshaw at Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal and thereafter as a contract analyst at Purdue University. He then served as the inaugural coordinator of the University of Central Florida’s contract management system. In this role, he served as the users’ primary point of contact and with the IT teams responsible for the system; he was also the primary trainer of the new system. David received his B.S. from the University of South Florida, his J.D., cum laude from Stetson University College of Law, and his LL.M. in environmental law and policy, cum laude, from the Florida State University College of Law. David is admitted to practice law in Florida and Indiana (inactive).

David is an active member of the Florida Bar’s Animal Law Section and helped grow the section from a committee. His legal interests include environmental law and policy, civil rights and diversity, as well as appellate practice.
