Melaine Schmiz, Assistant General Counsel, has worked in the Office of the General Counsel since 2014. Melaine provides legal advice and counsel in the general areas of student matters, information technology, immigration law and visas, Foundation gift agreements and University police matters. Melaine originally joined the Office of the General Counsel as an intern while completing her final semester of law school. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Melaine was a preschool teacher.
Melaine earned her B.S. in Political Science from the University of South Florida and her J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. While in law school, Melaine was an inaugural member of the Student Bar Association, a member of the WMU-Cooley Law Review, and the international legal honor society Phi Delta Phi.
