April 11 – Celebrating SK Day: Middle school math workshops

The Florida Polytechnic University Department of Applied Mathematics will host Sonia Kovalevsky Day (SK Day) on Saturday, April 11. The day will feature fun workshops, talks and hands-on activities for middle school students to explore exciting topics in mathematics.

If you have middle school-aged children who would like to participate, register them for this free and fun event! Registration closes on Wednesday, April 1.

Sonia Kovalevsky was a pioneer in mathematics. As the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics, she made significant contributions to her field. SK Day seeks to honor her legacy by promoting student engagement in math.

  • What: Math workshops for middle school students
  • Who:  All middle school students (grades 6 – 8) are invited to participate
  • When: Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Location: Florida Poly’s IST Building, 4700 Research Way
  • Cost: Free. Lunch and all supplies will be provided.
  • Register: Sign up here by Wednesday, April 1. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
