Road closures continue to affect travel to campus

This notice appeared in the Weekly Phoenix between June 29, 2026 and July 10, 2026.

Beginning on Monday, July 6, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will close S.R. 33 at North Combee Road (S.R. 659) as part of the ongoing I-4 at S.R. 33 Interchange Improvements and Wildlife Crossings Project. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 60 days. Drivers will be directed to use Old Combee Road to travel around the construction area.

In addition, the closure of S.R. 33 at University Boulevard, which began June 16, remains in effect and is expected to continue through mid-August. Motorists can access campus using the posted detour routes via I-4, S.R. 559, C. Fred Jones Boulevard, Berkley Road, and Pace Road, or by using the Polk Parkway (S.R. 570) toll route.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen conditions.

Students, faculty, staff and visitors should plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour routes when traveling to and from campus.
