June 8 – Audio conferencing coming to Microsoft Teams

This notice appeared in the Weekly Phoenix between May 31, 2022 and June 9, 2022.

May 31, 2022

Technology Services will activate a new feature in Microsoft Teams on June 8 that allows dial-in audio-only access to Microsoft Teams meetings. On June, 8 you should receive an email from [email protected] with your Teams PIN. This PIN is needed if you wish to connect to a Teams meeting via dial-in as the meeting leader. Otherwise, this PIN is not required.

With this new feature, we are also changing the default on how attendees are admitted to Teams meetings. Any attendee who has a Florida Poly NetID or is a registered guest of the meeting will be admitted automatically; all other attendees (such as dial-in attendees) will be placed in the meeting “lobby” until admitted. These defaults can be changed by the meeting organizer to fit the specific needs of individual meetings.

As of June 8, invites to Teams meetings in Outlook will now automatically include information on how to connect to the meeting via dial-in.

To understand the full options of this new feature, please refer to the IT Help Desk KnowledgeBase article “Teams Dial-In Conferencing and Meeting Security” at help.floridapoly.edu.
