A new Canvas Rich Content Editor is coming

Canvas has a redesigned Rich Content Editor (RCE) which will replace the existing Rich Content Editor on August 14, 2020. The new RCE offers an improved user experience across Canvas tools. For example, the toolbar includes a condensed, more intuitive look, menus are grouped by common icons and interactions, and generally, more editing area is displayed. If you wish to preview the new RCE, it is available as a feature option that you can enable in your course now. You do not have to use it, but you may want to take a look in case the new features are beneficial to you.

Assignment bulk editing

As an instructor, you have the option to update due dates and availability dates for multiple assignments and assessments at one time. Additionally, if you previously assigned differentiated due dates for sections, students, or groups, you can now bulk update these due dates and availability dates.

UDOIT

The Universal Design Online Content Inspection Tool, or UDOIT (pronounced, “You Do It”) enables faculty to identify accessibility issues in Canvas courses. It will scan a course, generate a report, and provide resources on how to address common accessibility issues.

What does it do?

UDOIT will identify “errors” and provide “suggestions” in the following areas of your course:

  • Announcements
  • Assignments
  • Discussions
  • Files (i.e., .html files)
  • Pages
  • Syllabus
  • Module URLs

It will check for the appropriate use of the following:

  • Use of headings in page structure
