FAQ about change to IST reception

This notice appeared in the Weekly Phoenix between July 28, 2020 and August 10, 2020.

July 28, 2020

As of July 13, Florida Polytechnic University no longer employs a receptionist in the IST Building. Understandably, you may have questions and we hope this FAQ will answer them.

  • So, no one will be sitting at the desk?
    • There will no longer be a full-time employee sitting at the front desk. The University Police Department is aware of this change and will have rotating shifts of personnel sit at the desk at different times during the week to maintain security.
  • What happens to mail distribution?
    • Mail and packages are already being directly distributed to each department’s administrative assistant for further sorting and delivering. Outgoing mail can still be dropped off at the front desk, which is picked up daily by 2:30 p.m. For more information, email Auxiliary Services.
  • What if I have a meeting with an outside visitor?
    • Please give your full contact information to your visitor and meet them downstairs at the north entrance. A video phone will be located on the desk for visitors to call you or your administrative assistant. Please ask your supervisor how your department prefers to handle visitors.
  • Who will answer the phones?
    • We have an existing phone tree that has been updated with the most requested departments to receive these calls, including a searchable directory of employees.
  • Who will be delivering paper to the stock rooms?
    • Since July 1, 2020, Auxiliary Enterprises has been delivering paper as part of their all-inclusive per-click charge to cost centers.
  • I am a nursing mother. Where can I go for privacy?
    • The Nursing Mother’s room key is now held at the Office of the President, IST 2056. Please stop by and a staff member will open the room for you. For more information, please email Michelle Disson.
