What happens if I miss Open Enrollment?

This notice appeared in the Weekly Phoenix between October 8, 2018 and October 14, 2018.

The State of Florida manages our state benefits, and they do not offer an extension when a deadline is missed for Open Enrollment. Employees will have to wait until the next year’s Open Enrollment period. However, if you experience a Qualifying Status Change (QSC) event and request a change within the QSC window, you are permitted to change a benefit election.

Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to add, change, or remove benefits enrollment elections for the next plan year. Elections made during Open Enrollment are effective on January 1st of the following year. Outside the annual Open Enrollment period, employees may only make changes to their benefits elections within 60 days of a QSC event.

2019 Open Enrollment dates are Oct. 15 through Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. EDT. We encourage you to make your elections early in case you need assistance from the People First Service Center.

You may visit My Benefits or view the Benefits Guide for the Plan Year 2019 to learn what’s new in this Open Enrollment period. Changes can be made to your benefits through the People First online portal.

For more information, contact the People First Service Center at 866-663-4735.
