Email forwarding disabled for Florida Poly employees beginning March 1

This notice appeared in the Weekly Phoenix between February 25, 2019 and March 3, 2019.

Beginning Friday, March 1, 2019, we will disable forwarding email from Florida Poly employee accounts. Use Microsoft Outlook or log into Outlook instead. Read on or contact the Helpdesk for more details.

The Florida Poly president’s cabinet decided in its February 14, 2019, meeting that employees should “no longer be able to auto-forward emails.” Accordingly, this Friday, March 1, Technology Services will be disabling email auto-forwarding for all employees. This will affect both account forwarding and forwarding rules.

Why is this important? In brief, University data must remain within University systems to comply with federal and state regulation and University policy. Forwarding employee email to an outside account moves institutional data outside the safeguards we’ve put in place to ensure the confidentiality, accessibility, and integrity of that data. It puts the university at risk—and you as well!

To access email, employees should use Microsoft Outlook or log into Outlook. Microsoft Outlook is installed on all Florida Poly computers and mobile versions are available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Outlook.com is available wherever web browsers are found.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, email the Helpdesk or call 863-874-8888.
